PROVEN DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMANCE832nd ECCMID Lisbon, Portugal – INTEGRATED SYMPOSIA AND EXHIBITION GUIDE Welcome Address Dear colleagues and friends, The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) is delighted to invite you to take part at the 32nd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID 2022), which will be held from Saturday 23 to Tuesday 26 April 2022, in a hybrid format both online and onsite in Lisbon, Portugal. ECCMID is the leading and the largest educational platform for specialists in clinical microbi- ology, infectious disease, infection prevention, infection control and public health. ECCMID 2022 will offer excellent opportunities to corporate partners to showcase their latest findings, share their experiences and knowledge and demonstrate practical techniques and guidance. Last year, for the first time, we explored a fully virtual delivery of ECCMID to maximise our accessibility in a time of tremendous uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic. We saw the opportunity to bring together participants from all around the globe, focusing on sharing sci- entific information. As we strive to increase the excellence of our annual congress constantly, we continue to develop our hybrid format for ECCMID. This year we are excited to return to hosting an onsite congress in Lisbon, Portugal bringing back the personal interaction that has been sorely missed. However, the addition of an online platform ensures that we retain the flexibility and accessibility of the scientific content for all attendees regardless of geographic or travel limitations. The ECCMID Programme Committee is working tirelessly to create a comprehensive and timely programme covering the entire range of ECCMID topics with high-level speakers. Participants will have the opportunity to meet researchers from many parts of the world to discuss meth- ods, results and the impact on clinical and laboratory practice. As in previous years, young professionals will also have the opportunity to discuss their ideas and projects with renowned experts in a variety of interactive sessions that also provide superb networking opportuni- ties. This year ECCMID will again feature pipeline corners where innovative companies and re- search groups will be offered a platform to present their early-stage antimicrobial therapies, diagnostic products in development, and research funding opportunities to a wider audience. This will be complemented by scientific content co-developed with the industry such as the integrated symposia. Last year we expanded our programme to include a series of “Pre-ECCMID Days” that took place leading up to the congress and covered a variety of hot topics, including COVID-19, AMR and Vaccines. These were well attended individual learning days that increased the breadth of ECCMID and allowed for special topics to be brought to the forefront of scientific discussions. 932nd ECCMID Lisbon, Portugal – INTEGRATED SYMPOSIA AND EXHIBITION GUIDE We are continuing this initiative this year while addressing key themes that will be further covered and built upon during the congress itself. Other new features from ECCMID 2021 that will be returning this year will be the Keynote Fireplace sessions where ECCMID keynote speakers meet with a small group of participants to enter a more in-depth discussion on their keynote lecture. Additionally, the infectious dis- ease-themed Escape Room will be reprised and updated as an immersive interactive addition. We also invite our participants to take part in our ECCMID Art Gallery, showcasing the creativ- ity of our community. ECCMID 2022 will enable our community to discuss, network, develop and share knowledge that is imperative for our discipline. The scientific programme will highlight the latest scientif- ic achievements and will create a comprehensive intellectual and operational environment for the acquisition of knowledge, skills and clinical judgement. The venues in Lisbon offer all modern amenities required for the successful organisation of our congress and is reachable by public transport from the city centre. After a day full of in- spiring sessions and fruitful discussions, we hope that you will have time to explore Lisbon, a cosmopolitan city with a rich history and culture. We look forward to seeing you both onsite in Lisbon and online! Thank you for again making this congress one of the top scientific events of the year.
