< Previous– 40 – Ernestina Repetto Since the last 22 months our bodies and minds have been on & off locked down. During a trip in France I caught the moment when my daughters’ curiosity were trapped in a caged window. But the sun was shining and the sky was blue and their smiles- that you cannot see- were speaking about their freedom of spirits that no cage nor pandemic will ever affect. They correspond to colonies of Nocardia spp. From the sputum of a patient with pulmonary pathology. The growth on chocolate agar so linear made it occur to me to change the arrangement of the seeding lines with this result. Merry Christmas and a happy new year PHOTO- GRAPHY– 47 – Sirje Sasi Wearing a mask is one of the most important protective measures we have in this pandemic along with social distancing and handwashing. This however has an ugly side. Masks, if not properly disposed of, can end up on the streets, in the sea and also nature. During a few hour walk, one could find many masks that have either fell from the pockets, thrown down by people on purpose or carried out of the trash bins by birds. This collage aims to draw attention to the waste problem. All the photographed masks were collected and disposed of properly. This photography is related to the days with many deaths of COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 breaks many hearts. The effect of COVID-19 on our heart PHOTO- GRAPHY– 49 – Gianpiero Tebano This photo was taken in April 2020, during the first lock down. That period was our common, traumatic way to enter in the COVID era, which changed our way to live and relate ourselves each other and to the world around us. The “children side of the pandemic” has not received great attention. Their silent suffering has been a dramatic unattended consequence. Children represent the dream of another, better world. Locked in children means locked in dreams. I wish that our work, as scientific and medical community, could contribute, saving people and defeating COVID, to unlock children’s lives and dreams.
